BUDDY’S PIZZA
The 5,200 sq. ft. eatery located in the Detroit Zoo is home to Buddy’s Pizza, the institution known for the original Detroit-style square pizza. Now with it’s 13th location in Michigan, the pizzeria seats 163 guests and offers memorable views of the Zoo’s historic Rackham Fountain from the dining room with fretted glass utilized for the windows to prevent and minimize the occurrence of bird strikes.
The interior ceiling feature was created by using 100-year-old reclaimed wooden planks from a Michigan barn, and the two counters were built using bowling alley flooring from an old establishment in metro Detroit.
As a part of the Zoo’s commitment to environmental sustainability, the rooftop terrace that boasts the highest vantage point in the Zoo, was constructed of a 95-percent recycled wood-alternative composed primarily of plastic grocery bags and reclaimed hardwood.
